Terms in plain English

SAM.gov: The government’s list of companies that can win federal contracts.
UEI: Unique Entity ID. The 12-character ID SAM.gov gives each company.
CAGE code: A 5-character code agencies use to identify a supplier.
SDVOSB / VOSB: Small businesses owned by service-disabled veterans (SDVOSB) or by veterans (VOSB). The SBA certifies them through its VetCert program.
NAICS: Standard codes that describe the kind of work a business does.
GPC: The government purchase card. Agencies use it for smaller buys.
Prime contractor: The company that holds the main contract. It may hire subcontractors.
RFQ: Request for quote. A buyer asks for a price on a set need.
